1. 研究目的与意义

In the 19th century Britain, the utilitarian realism is living in the dominance. The utilitarian realism means When we agree or disagree with a behavior, we look at whether the behavior increases or decreases the happiness of people. In another words, they only care their own happiness. Due to the Bourgeois class too believes utilitarian realism, the conflict between different class never stops. From the sight of our socialism, we can summarize the phenomenon and reason by researching the utilitarian realism in #8216;Hard Times#8217;, we can avoid the these faults and build a better socialist society.

2. 研究内容和预期目标

My paper will give a brief introduction of #8216;Hard Times#8217;, by discussing the details of characters and environment to find the main idea I want to talk. First, I will talk about the brief introduction of #8216;Hard Times#8217; and its background. Then, I will discuss the characters#8217; behaviors and endings and environment in the book to talk about the utilitarian realism. Last, I will discuss the utilitarian realism and link with our socialism to show what we should pay attention to creating better future.

3. 国内外研究现状

There are many researches in the world, not only in china, but also in the foreign countries. In China, many researchers like Wang Jianjun and Tian Jianping focus on the utilitarian realism will cause the tragedy of the bottom people. They emphasis on the terrible lives of common people because the capitalists only care about their profit instead of other people#8217;s happiness. While in the foreign countries, people like Phillip Collins and Ackroyd, Peter, they think that from the Hard Times, they can realize in the 19th Britain, the reason of the conflicts between different class. They analysis the phenomenon through the book and find ways to solve the problems. It#8217;s quite different from our research.
