1. 研究目的与意义
In the past decades, researchers began to study whether personality types affect the choice of English learners#8217; learning strategies. The findings suggest that learning styles are very often decided by learners#8217; personalities and personalities have a significant influence on students#8217; choice of learning strategies, and that both styles and strategies affect learning outcomes (Ehrman amp; Oxford, 1988, 1989; Oxford amp; Erhman, 1988).
In recent years, more and more researchers also started to learn the influence of personality types on the choice of English learners#8217; learning strategies in Chinese context. However, most of the researches are still in their initial stage, and their documents show that they regard each parts of English learning as a whole (reading, listening, writing, etc) and study the general learning styles.
With the increasing awareness of the importance of oral English learning and the growing need of competent interpreters, it is necessary to conduct an exhaustive research about the influence of personality on the choice of English learners'''' oral English learning strategies, thus adopting different strategies in accordance with students#8217; personality. Besides, the findings of the study also pose some suggestions to both teachers and students of Chinese studying English as a foreign language.
2. 研究内容和预期目标
By doing some researches about students#8217; personality types and English learning strategies, this study will collect the data and then it will analyze the data, aiming to find out whether personality types (introversion/extroversion) have influence on the choice of oral English learning strategies, as well as the difference in choice between the two personality types. Finally it will give the result of research. The following will be the outline of the thesis:

From 1970s, a number of researches have been done to study English learning strategies, such as Rubin (1975), Stern (1975) and Naimen(1978). They analyzed and summarized the learning strategies of successful language learners. As for the factors influencing the choice of learning strategies, these factors are proved to affect: motivation, age, achievement of learning and personality.
Later on, some foreign researchers focus their attention on the relationship between personality types and English learning achievement. But they have unanimous conclusion whether personality, as an important factor, affects learners#8217; English proficiency. Wang (2000) concluded that personality has little influence on one#8217;s comprehensive skills, but as far as the specific skills are concerned, all skills have certain linear correlation with personality, whereas Liang and Tan (1999) suggest that there is little relationship between introversion/extroversion and English learning.
In the past several decades, many foreign researchers have been dedicated to study the influence of personality on the choice of English learning strategies. Researches (Ehrman amp; Oxford, 1988, 1989; Oxford amp;Erhman, 1988) suggest that learning styles have a significant influence on students#8217; choice of learning strategies, and that both styles and strategies affect learning outcomes.
4. 计划与进度安排
This study chooses some students of English majors as the subjects. Firstly, an investigation of personality will be conducted to examine whether they are introverts or extroverts. Then they will finish the oral English strategy questionnaire.
And then it analyses the data and finds out relationship between the personality types and the learning strategies, as well as the difference in choice of English learning strategies between the introverts and the extroverts.
