Althoughplastic theater is widely used in Williams’ drama, the expressions about itsconcept are broad. When Tennessee Williams uses the word “plastic”, inmost cases, he refers to the non-verbal expression on the stage, and criticsfocus on his utilization of resources of the stage in their comment aboutplastic theatre. However, this opinion is one-sided. Therefore, this articleattempts to make a detailed and in-depth analysis of the application ofWilliams'' plastic theatre in 'A Streetcar Named Desire'. Firstly, thisarticle expresses except for stage techniques, the poetic language and thelyrical atmosphere are also essential parts in Tennessee Williams’ plastictheatre, which enrich Tennessee Williams’ Plastic Theater. Secondly, the pointin this article can be used into contemporary drama, especially in the fieldsof stage aesthetics. The Plastic Theater opens the new ground that art,technology and literature can be integrated together to produce new effects.

As oneof the most famous playwrights in 20th century in America, Tennesseeis paid attention to for his Plastic Theater. He criticizes the realism indrama field for its photographic likeness, and he doesn’t restrict himself tothe expression. When examining his work, it isobvious to realize that he overthrows the conservative pattern used by formerdramatists and establishes a new system for his drama. Tennessee Williams endeavors to create hisown dramaturgy, thus comes the Plastic Theater.
