1. 研究目的与意义
The#8194;title#8194;is#8194;the#8194;brand#8194;trademark#8194;of#8194;the#8194;movie#8194;which#8194;condenses#8194;the#8194;pith#8194;of#8194;the#8194;story.#8194;With#8194;the#8194;cultural#8194;#8194;exchange#8194;between#8194;China#8194;and#8194;western#8194;countries,#8194;more#8194;and#8194;more#8194;western#8194;movies#8194;have#8194;come#8194;into#8194;Chinese#8194;market.#8194;The#8194;movie#8194;title#8194;is#8194;the#8194;first#8194;thing#8194;through#8194;which#8194;the#8194;audience#8194;can#8194;know#8194;#8194;about#8194;the#8194;movie,#8194;so#8194;the#8194;translation#8194;of#8194;western#8194;movietitles#8194;is#8194;pretty#8194;important.The translation of movie titles should not only be concise and straightforward,but also beautiful in its language to motivate the audience#8217;s interests. Inaddition, from the perspective of movie titles#8217; commercial characteristics, thestand or fall of a movie titlecan determineits boxoffice to a large extent;from theperspectiveof movietitles#8217;artistic value,a welltranslatedmovie titlecannot onlyattracteyeballs atthefirst time,but alsoearn apermanentpraise andhonor. At present, however,there are still many problems concerning the translation of those movietitles.In general, the problems of movie title translation is mainly caused byinsufficient understanding of movie plot and misunderstandingof culturalinformation. What#8217;smore, it#8217;s stilla controversial issueonwhether the translationofmovie titlesshouldstrictly obeythefaithful principleaccordingto semantic translation, or it#8217;s their responsibilities to consider the audiences#8217; acceptance and favor as the most essential criterion under communicative translation theory. Based on different kinds of movie titletranslation, this thesis will mainly figure out three aspects of movie titletranslation, including the main causes of these translation problems, theprinciples of English movie title translation, and methods of movie titletranslation. And it will discuss the translation of English movie titles fromthe perspective of domestication and foreignization.
2. 研究内容和预期目标
There are many problems and challenges in the courseof English movie title translation. Many translated versions of movie titlespay so much attention to the commercial effect that they fail to obey the rulesof faithfulness. On the other hand, some translated titles can not convey theyideas and aesthetic effect of the movies. So that the main issues to deal within this thesis are: reasons behind the existing translation problems of movietitles; Possible solutions to deal with those problems; The application ofdomestication and foreignization. The possibilities of translating movie titlesbased on both the principle of faithfulness and the pursuit of aestheticeffects.The first part of this thesis is the basic introduction of movie titletranslation, including the functions and features of movie titles, as well asthe existing problems of title translation. It compares different versions of translation in Chinesemainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan.The second part is the analysis of the possiblereasons behind the existing problems of translation. The third part mainlydeals with the principles of English movie title translation.And the last part introduces several methods oftranslation, It centers on the application of domestication and foreignizationin the process of English movie title translation, andtries to discover a possible way to combinethe principle of faithfulness with the attractive effects in the process oftranslation.The last part is the conclusion of the whole thesis.
