3. 国内外研究现状
A Tale of Two Cities was the peak work of Dickens#8217; writing career. It was created in the case of personal life being twisted and unfortunate, and thus had a deeper observation and understanding of social reality. Therefore, this novel was more mature. Humanity could better reflect the author#8217;s ideological connotation. From the characteristics and content of the novel, it was not difficult to conclude that Dickens was a writer with a strong tendency to promote wonderful things, never concealing his own thoughts and emotions in his works (Kang Ping,Wang Yan,2006). Therefore, Dickens#8217; complicated and painful experience during this period prompted him to write this great work, and it was these experience that enabled him to create many profound characters#8217; images in his works.Dickens was a famous British critical realist writer in the 19th century. His works mainly showed the situation of Victorian British society at that time, fully revealing the evils of British capitalism. The humanistic spirits and the care for people throughout the work had enriched the connotation of the novel. Humanism was mainly produced during the Renaissance, and the foundation was humanity. The humanitarianism of this period was a heritage of ancient Roman and ancient Greek civil humanitarianism and was fully developed in the wave of the times (Zhang Yanqiong,2016). Dickens was deeply influenced by the humanistic spirits. The main reason was related to the environment in which Dickens grew up. Therefore, in his works, he reflected the concern and sympathy of the bottom of the public and the promotion of humanity and morality to the humanized society. However, due to the class position of Dickens, there were some limitations in his understanding and interpretation of humanism(Xing Xianglan,2010).Dickens believed that the class revolution of bloody revenge would only create another cruel ruling class. Only the pursuit of human nature and selfless humanitarianism were the directions of human society development. Although Dickens did not find the way to solve the basic contradictions of society because of the limitations of his historical era, he advocated humanitarian thoughts and made a ruthless criticism of the dark reality of society in the form of novels. Dickens#8217; portrayal of the many characters in A Tale of Two Cities reflected his humanitarianism - hate never surpasses love (Zhu Jie, Zhan Kai,2008). In view of the background of Dickens#8217; life and his thoughts, the humanistic spirits embodied in his works are also crucial.Dickens emphasized humanity and emphasized the use of the spirit of benevolence and forgiveness to treat hostile classes. It not only enabled hostile classes and hostile people to understand each other, but also changed the distorted mind and made people recover. Its humanitarian was focused on the scope of ethics, though its foundation was still the human. But it was embodied in morality. Morality was a measure of whether a person had humanity. Dickens believed that the good and evil human nature were united, which couldn#8217;t exist solely, and sometimes one could be converted to the other(Zang Change, Guo Yueqin, 2012). They believed that this was the core of the humanistic spirits advocated by Dickens.
