3. 国内外研究现状
Because of Invisible Man’s great importance and significance, Scholars at home and abroad have made many research and comment on it. Such as studies on ‘the application of Bruce Music’ , ‘symbolism’, ‘ Alison''''s thought of ethnic integration’, ‘the black humor writing style’, its ‘ring narrative structure’ and so on. However, only a few studies focus on the aspect of cultural identity and self-identity through the main character’s growth experience. Therefore, this paper will mainly analyse both the existing domestic and foreign research on the cultural identity and self-identity in Invisible Man. At home, many scholars use existentialism to analyze the difficulty of self-recognition of the black people in Invisible Man. There are also studies focus on the black culture’s loss, finding, and awakening process in white society from the perspective of cultural self existence and alienation. In foreign countries, the analysis of Invisible Man abroad mainly concentrated in the United States. There are studies focus on the protagonist’s personal growth from innocence to maturity, the prejudice and oppression from white culture, cultural hybridity in the United States and so on. Therefore, the foreign research focus more on the self-identity and self essence and try to focus on the individual issue.
