3. 国内外研究现状

Beloved is written by Toni Morrison who is the first woman African American writer to win Nobel Prize for literature. She also won the Pulitzer Prize and the American Book Award and the American Book Award in 1988 for Beloved. Her works are famous for the vivid description about African-American life. One of her work, The Black Book, is considered as an encyclopedia of African-American history. The Swedish Academy praises her as the one who gives life to an essential aspect of American reality.

According to Leys (2000), Trauma originated from Greek and originally meant physical wounds. It was Caruth (1996) who firstly put forward this nomenclature. She defined it as experience toward a certain sudden or catastrophic event. Zou (2018) suggests trauma is defined as physical or mental damage which was out of a man could stand. Tao (2011) points out that trauma is the product of violence of modernity and characterized by three essential features including intrusion, belatedness and compulsive repetition. Herman (1992) suggests that people who suffered from trauma might recall or dream about those painful memories repeatedly and generate some traumatic symptoms such as repression, hallucination and insanity etc.

Beloved has attracted much attention since it came out. So far, there are thousands of scholars doing research on Beloved and trying to interpret the novel from different perspectives. Most of the papers analyze the book from the perspective of African-American identity, writing techniques, feminism, racism, colonialism and trauma. From the perspective of African-American identity, Li(2017) talks about the process of transition from black slavery to ordinary American and rebuild the identity of individuals. Many scholars prefer to interpret a novel by analyzing its writing techniques. Jia(2016) emphasizes that the combination of reality and imagination shows extremely strong effect of expression due to the adoption of magic realism in Beloved. Zhao and Huang(2011) analyzes the symbolic meaning of color, water and tree. Feminism critics focus on the tragedy and struggle of black women. Liu(2017) analyze the miserable experience of black women due to the slavery and sex prejudice and show the struggle and growth of them. Sims(2011) indicates that women who have been divorced or alienated from marriage have to renegotiate her identity with society. For racism and colonialism critics, they intend to show the cruelty of slavery and racial discrimination. In addition, some critics show great interest in family pattern in Morrison#8217; s books. Gumm(2017) argues that ideological manifestations of family security may damage the health of family from inside out.
