In recent years, the studies on Frankenstein and Mary Shelley are increasing in China. But compared with western research, Chinese research start of this topic is much later with little achievement. Frankenstein written by Mary Shelley is regarded as the first science fiction in the history of literature. Research should explore more angles and combine with theory more closely. With the continuous development of science and technology, intelligent robots and AI have entered our daily life. In Frankenstein, Mary shows us the merciless destruction of science and technology to nature and society. This is a warning of human''s endless desire for knowledge.

Frankenstein''s over exploration of technology creates a monster, which eventually leads to a series of tragedies. The only place where he could calm his mind before he died was the scenery along the voyage. The research on Frankenstein from the perspective of ecological ethics is just in line with the background of the rapid development of science and technology. As a representative of science and technology, Frankenstein should have attached great importance to his relationship with Elizabeth. Elizabeth is the natural symbol of the truth, goodness and beauty. But he devotes himself to research. The monster eventually killed Elizabeth. This is the challenge of science and technology to nature. Faced with monster, Frankenstein ignores his responsibility for it. This abandonment is disrespectful to social ethics. The exploration of the spirit world of monsters is in line with the study of spirit ecology. The tragedy of Frankenstein deserves our serious reflection.

3.1 Researches abroad

The studies of Frankenstein in Western criticism have been done since its publication. Jessica Bomarito and Jeffrey W. Hunter divide the Western criticism of Frankenstein into four stages in Feminism in Literature.

Firstly, Critics mainly focus on the Gothic literary genre of Frankenstein when its published. It adds the elements of scientific fantasy to traditional Gothic novels. Then, Gothic novels enter a new stage. Secondly, Critics do little research on Frankenstein in the early Victorian period. Ian Watt thinks that Gothic novels are of little significance after a thorough study of them. Gothic novels are excluded from the palace of pure literature as popular literature. Thirdly, the theme of mythological philosophy and the romanticism in Frankenstein have been concerned since the 19th century. Critics mainly discuss the influence of Mary Wollstonecraft''s feminism and Percy Bysshe Shelley''s Romanticism on Mary''s works. Fourthly, with various modern critical approaches having been adopted since the 1950s, the studies of Frankenstein have become more diversified.
