1. 研究目的与意义
Language is created by a nation through its long-term work and life,which not only facilitates communication between people, but also embodies the living habits, national customs, values, and ethics of a region and a country. In the process of communication between different countries, due to different language systems, different cultural backgrounds, the multiple meanings and ambiguities of words make the two sides have different understanding of the same word, which is easy to produce communication barriers. The biggest difficulty in interpretation is often not the language itself, but the cultural connotations carried behind the language. Each country has different cultural backgrounds and habits, and different ways of describing and understanding external things,which makes the language unique in its formation process and creates a cultural load of words that is difficult for other countries to understand. However, in the current era of economic, cultural, and political globalization, communication between countries is indispensable. How to interpret culture-loaded words and how to unblock the communication channels so that the listener can understand the meaning of culturally-loaded words and the speaker''s intention is particularly important.
In addition, the translation of culturally load words is also beneficial to the export of Chinese culture. By using cultural loaded words with traditional and realistic ideas, we show the world China''s unique linguistic art and charm, and vividly introduce Chinese culture to the world.
2. 研究内容和预期目标
Culture-loaded words,deeply imprinted with the special brand of a certain language society, and at the same time carrying rich cultural connotations, in order to better disseminate Chinese culture, this paper studies the interpretation of Chinese cultural-loaded words in President Xi’s speeches, and through analysis of the excellent Chinese cultural and traditional elements quoted in the speech, we can come up with the English translation strategies of Chinese culture-loaded words.
The essay is divided into five parts.Chapter one is mainly about literature review and current studies of the interpretation strategies of culture-loaded words in President Xi’s Speeches.Chapter two analyzes the cases and principles used in the interpretation of culture-loaded words in President Xi’s speech.Chapter three tells us the existing problems and difficulties in interpretation.And the next part comes up with strategies we can use in interpretation.The last chapter makes an summary and expectation of the interpretation of culture-loaded words in President Xi’s speech.
3. 国内外研究现状
Zhang(2014) said that he strategy of cultural 'going out' refers to promoting Chinese cultural products to enter the international market through the development of cultural communication and cultural trade, spreading Chinese culture to the world, and improving the country’s cultural 'soft power' and influence while gaining export and investment income from cultural products. As a bridge of multicultural communication and dissemination, translation plays a pivotal role in the realization of this great strategy. But Chinese scholar Liao Qiyi(2004) defined that Chinese culture 'going out' is not simply a matter of translating Chinese into English. There are a lot of culture-loaded words in Chinese traditional culture. These vocabularies reflect the unique activities of a particular nation that are gradually accumulated in the long historical process, which is different from other nations. Therefore, in foreign translation, how to deal with such special words and accurately disseminate the essence of Chinese traditional culture in order to truly achieve the goal of Chinese culture 'going out'.
'Cultural-loaded word translation' was rarely mentioned in China before 2000. After 2000, it has shown a rapid growth trend and has increased by more than 100 articles every year.
Tao and Li[陶淑媛、李凤萍(2018)] point out that Chinese culture-loaded words carry rich cultural connotations, as a result, it is necessary to deal with Chinese culture-loaded words.From an inductive analysis of the English translations of culture-loaded words in President Xi’s speeches we can find that the translators'' treatment of Chinese cultural loaded words follows the three principles of cultural loaded word translation, namely, retaining the cultural connotations of the original text, conforming to the habits of expression in the translated language, and being close to the habits of thinking of foreign audiences.In choosing the translation strategies, the translator adopts literal translation, paraphrase, paraphrase, and paraphrase to accurately convey the various information contained in President Xi''s speech and also conform to the habits of expression in the translated language.
