1. 研究目的与意义

Norman Conquest in 1066 has brought the indelible positive influence to Britain. In the aspect of language, Norman Conquest caused the massive French vocabulary emerge in English. This article briefly introduced the succession development of English in middle Ages from those five aspects including the law, religion, and literature. French words have reflected the corresponding relationships between the language development and the nationality development in the historical vicissitude of English. According to statistics, only 61.7% of the thousand words used in modern English begin with Old English words, and the remaining 38.3% are borrowed from foreign languages: 30.9% French, 2. 9% of Latin words, 1.7% of ancient Scandinavian words, 1.3% of mixed vocabulary, 1.3% of Low German and Dutch vocabulary.

2. 研究内容和预期目标

Norman Conquest caused Britain and France to have the close relation, and caused some Norman to settle down in Britain, some of which were social elites and spread the Normandy's outstanding things to England because France occupied the very prosperous stage in politics, economy, culture and other aspects in this period. Therefore, under this circumstance, I will make a research on several aspects on French words which influenced the English Society for better understanding French words, English culture and learning English.

At present the domestic academic community on the Norman conquest of the impact on English development includes vocabulary, phonetics, syntax, etc. But also from the perspective of linguistics were discussed, and this work is mainly related to Li Fu-Ning#8217;s 'European History ' and #8220;English history#8221;. In addition, Zhang Gamin in his article, related to the first century of the Norman conquest had the important impact mainly in the spelling, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary which promoted the evolution of ancient English into apprehensive syntactic language to become a language with obvious analytic characteristics. In foreign academic circles, people have the linguistic point of view of the influence of English. The result of the evolution is that English is getting from a more and more comp man Conquest had been brought to the English development, the involved areas and the depth are still very limited. For example, Tomas Cable''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''s 'English Language History, from the perspective of English history talked about the Norman conquest impacted on medieval English which just only from the macro level, did not expand to elaborate.Thus, this paper attempts to discuss the influence of French on Middle English from the perspective of social history and culture which under the background of Norman Conquest.
