Between the World WarⅠand World WarⅡ, the development of classical inferential novels reached a climax. And this period is called #8220;the Golden Age of Detective Fiction#8221;, of which one of the most representative writers is Agatha Christie. Agatha Christie was an English detective novelist, short story writer and playwright. As a writer of detective novels, Christie not only inherited the good tradition of western detective novels, but also made a breakthrough in many aspects. The portray of the characters in her works is especially excellent. She created many live and vivid characters in her many works. The Belgium detective Poirot and Jane Marple are two key characters linking many of her representative works. It is something that other detective novel writers don''t have. And another highlight of her writing skill is the use of conversation in her works. More than these, Agatha#8217;s works also show an intricate plot and ingenious conception.

2. 研究内容和预期目标

This thesis mainly concentrates on the study of Agatha Christie#8217;s writing skills of her detective novels from her intricate plot, ingenious conception, the portray of the characters and the art of language. Based on this, there will be further discussion on Agatha#8217;s writing skills from some of her famous works. This paper also talks about the regular features of a western detective novel to help people understand Agatha#8217;s works better.

Overseas, Agatha Christie''s works including other writers#8217; detective fictions have attracted a great deal of critics'' attention. And Professor Earl F. Bargannier is worthy of mentioning. In his book he offers us a detailed study on Agatha Christie#8217;s books from many aspects. In his book The Gentle Art Of Murder, Professor Earl F. Bargannier demonstrates that Christie thoroughly understood the conversations of her genre and, with seemingly inexhaustible ingenuity, was able to develop for more than fifty years surprising variations within those conversations. In The Complete Christie, Matthew Bunson offers biological details about the mystery writer#8217;s life. However, It seems that in China Agatha Christie hasn''t been known by as many people as Conan Doyle, actually her status in British literature has already exceeded the latter. In the last 30 years, Christie''s works have been introduced to China, but in fact, among books and post-graduate dissertations, the study about detective fiction or Agatha Christie herself can be counted on one''s fingers. Some articles introduce Agatha Christie''s romantic life and part of her novels; some make a study about Christie''s writing features, images and psychology of criminals and themes of her fictions; some analyze the conversation in the fictions by using linguistic theories. Chi Haiping from Hebei University wrote an essay aiming to the plot set strategy, character description method and suspense skills. And Du Wenjuan from Shandong Normal University did research on Agatha#8217;s plot set and suspense use.
