1. 研究目的与意义
There are lots kinds of discrimination in the world, such as discrimination on the grounds of race, gender, region or sexualorientation, etc. Quite a few things give rise to these discrimination, whichmakes it exceedingly challenging to eliminate these discrimination. And most oftime, people tend to pretend that these discrimination doesn’t exist as long astheir life isn’t concerned, which is to the detriment of the development of allman kind given the fact that globalization makes the fate of all human beingsclosely linked.
With the outbreak of a series of anti-racialdiscrimination movements around the world after the 'Freud incident'in the United States, racial discrimination has once again become the focus ofattention. From the perspective of cultural trauma theory, this paper willanalyze the racial discrimination in the book The Human Stain, andexplore the psychological changes experienced by black groups in Americanculture and the exploration of collective identity construction.
The theory of cultural trauma was first put forward byJeffrey Alexander. The theory holds that cultural trauma can be regarded as thecollective memory trauma of one society group. At present, the application ofthis theory, in the recent years, can be seen in the analysis of many socialphenomena, such as the unfair treatment suffered by Jews, Indians, black peopleand so forth. Therefore, an endeavor to explore the racial discrimination fromthe perspective of cultural trauma can be meaningful and constructive.
