1. 研究目的与意义
Domestication and foreignization, as two important translation strategies, are unavoidable in achieving excellent translation. The advantage of former lies in its avoiding the misinterpretation of the original text incurred by cultural differences, while that of the latter helps to cultivate the target language readers’ intercultural consciousness. As both strategies boast their own strengths, the researches into them from a kaleidoscope of aspects never stop and keep propping up. However, among so many angles, idioms, on the strength of their distinctive cultural characteristics, lend as one of the best tools in the exploration of domestication and foreignization. As such, it is well worth researching the application of these two translation strategies by means of studying idiom translation in order to gain greater insight into and make better use of them both in the practice of transaltion. Kingsbury, based on her own cultural background and understanding of Chinese culture, selectively and flexibly adopts two translation strategy above, rendering the translation readily accessible and understandable by westerners. As the best expert in studying Eileen Chang’s work and an extraordinary foreign sinologist, Kingsbury will enlighten us on applying domestication and foreignization in the field of literary translation in a more refined and sophisticated manner .

3. 国内外研究现状
In domestic realm, from the An Analysis on Culture-loaded words From the Perspective of Newmark’s Translation Theory written by Tang[唐万婵](2019), the writer draws a conclusion that Kinsbury adopts the communicative principles from Newmark’s Translation Theory. The function of communicative principles lies in its attempt to produce on its readers an effect as close as possible to that obtained on readers of the original. That just coincides with what Liu[刘邵铭](2007) says in his book that Kingsbury tries her best to make the target language readers feel the same way as the original language readers even it’s a very subtle emotion. In using communicative principles, Kingsbury tries a translation method more of a foreignization.
Ma[马利霞],(2012) points in her paper has analyzes why Kingsbury''s translation is so popular, contributing it to a shift in translation criterion influenced by 'subjectivity'. Translator''s Invisibility by Lawrence Venuti has greatly enhanced the status of foreignization by advancing subjectivity in the process of translation. Kingsbury''s adept and abundant application of foreignization just caters to such a tendency, whichis one of those reasons making her works a hit. Similarly, Yao[姚钰](2018) makes a detailed analysis of Kingsbury ''s subjectivity presented in in her translation of names and titles. Besides, from a study of Translator’s Subjectivity in the English Translation of Love in a Fallen City, the writer analyzes the idioms therein from Kingsbury’s subjectivity in translation, and concludes that the translation purpose of Kingsbury was to reserve most of the original flavor of the cultural image behind the source text and bring the unique traditional Chinese culture to western readers, so she exerted the subjectivity to keep the foreignization byadopting typical foreignizing strategy to translate some sentences.
