1. 研究目的与意义（文献综述）

Jane Eyre is Charlotte Bront's masterpiece, published in 1847, Daphne du Maurier’s masterpiece, Rebecca, is published in 1938. These two works, which are very similar in writing techniques and character settings, illustrate similar themes almost 100 years apart. In each novel there are three different relationships that are considered; the one between the husband and his first wife, the husband and the second wife, and the one between two women（Silbo I,2019）and there is a woman who is at the aphasia state. In Jane Eyre, Mr. Rochester’s first wife, Bertha Mason occurs very few times, we can only learn about this woman from Mr. Rochester’s words. In Rebecca, from the very beginning, Mr. De Winter’s first wife had been dead, readers can only get to know Rebecca through the memories of the characters in the book. Neither of them can defend themselves, but both of them strongly resist their fate and want to express their opinion.

It is said that Daphne du Maurier wrote this book under the influence of Jane Eyre written by Charlotte Bront. However, there are few comparative studies on the two books, which generally start from the whole and study the similarities and differences in content, plot, writing techniques and themes（李茜, 2009）. Among the literature research on view of marriage, Pride and Prejudice is the most studied. In 2016, a survey was conducted on the marriage concept of Chinese youth, and the research showed that most people believe that mutual support is the main purpose, personal quality is the most important criteria for choosing a spouse, and women demand more in terms of economy (肖武, 2016). Bertha mason has long been considered by many scholars to be of great research value. Some scholars study the tragic fate of Bertha Mason and its origin, thinking that women were discriminated in the patriarchal society, their economic independence was deprived, the whole society pursues profit, they have no right to pursue a happy marriage (吕晓光，2012) . In addition, someone studies feminist disabilities because of Bertha Mason’s mental illness (Bolt D, Rodas J M, Donaldson E J, 2012). By contrast, there are few studies on Rebecca. Some researchers focus on Rebecca’s male and female characteristics (刘婷婷，2011) and her lesbian desire (Hughes M, 2016). Moreover, the Gothic features and feminism symbols (Petersen T, 2009) attract some researchers. So far, no scholars have compared Bertha Mason and Rebecca from the perspective of psychoanalysis, although their inner world is similar and worth exploring. The innovation part of this paper is using Jung's psychoanalytic theory to analyze the two woman's views on marriage. This paper will help us better understand the views of upper-middle-class British women on marriage and gender inequality in the 19th and 20th centuries, it also has some warning effects for women in today's society.

Considering all the information and standpoints reflected in those previous studies for the two books, Bertha Mason and Rebecca have something in common for their marriage experience and resistance in injustice, so it is possible to interpret their views of marriage with psychoanalysis.
